The primary focus of the STAND Center is to practice and promote Sustainable Development, particularly sustainable agriculture. We have found a variety of avenues for doing this. We teach volunteers, visitors and students about many aspects of sustainable living. There are two key areas that we focus heavily on because these two areas, we believe, hold the most promise for improving tropical agricultural models.Stacked Poly-culture is a method of propagation that had been inspired by the natural rain forest itself. Terra Preta is a method for soil maintenance and conditioning that was first created over 2500 years ago by ancient South American cultures. These two cornerstones uphold the entire foundation of our model for sustainable agriculture in the rain forest, and can also be applied to some temperate zone agricultural systems with success. These two areas are highlighted here on the site and you can access this information through the respective links above. The links below or in the navigation bar to the left will provide more information about our programs and services.
